Light Up The Night: Opening Night at DROM

Light Up the Night is Dirty Cult’s latest venture/party shindig in partnership with the amazingly talented pop artist Queen Sessi and the ferociously fierce drag performer Miss Vanity Q. #LUTNnyc is an LGBTQ+ dance party and performance event that aims to create a safe space for our community and allies to come together, get wild, and celebrate art.

Our opening night went down at DROM in the Lower East Side (09/14), featuring live music performances by Queen Sessi, Bangz, and Sami Sol, and drag shows by Vanity Q, Jolina Jasmine, Trinity Beat, and Aladdin. Hosted by Dirty Cult’s Tara Byte!

The world’s largest queer drag & music festival returned to The Knockdown Center on Sept 8th and 9th for its seventh annual incarnation. This year, the festival had its biggest lineup yet with over 160 performers that included Drag Race alumni Alaska Thunderfuck, Aja, Shea Coulee, Dida Ritz, Thorgy Thor, and Pearl (DJ set), the legendary Lady Bunny, the Boulet Brothers (Dragula), and a sickening lineup of up-and-coming performers from Brooklyn and all around the world.

Founded by Brooklyn artists Horrorchata and Babes Trust, Bushwig is known for their inclusive setlists of extraordinary queer talent featuring the most legendary icons and rising acts of today, and every year their platform continues to expand, including shows in Los Angeles and Berlin.

The sixth annual Bushwig festival of Drag, Music & Love took place between Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th at the Knockdown Center in Queens, NY. This year’s all-star line-up included Chicago rapper  CupcakKe, Kosovar singer Era Istrefi, (from RuPaul’s Drag Race) Alyssa Edwards, Thorgy Thor and Dida Ritz, plus an incredible variety of local and visiting drag artists and performers.

Founded in 2012 by Horrorchata and Babes Trust, the festival aims to “provide a space to showcase new talent, as well as build a community focused around art and music.” Since its founding, the festival has grown from a one day event in Bushwick, to the massive two-day extravaganza we experienced this weekend, plus satellite locations that include Mexico City.
